How do I change my shell's default text editor?

Applies to: Grid System, Managed Servers, VPS

You may add


To the end of the /.bash_profile file in your account, where EDITOR_NAME is a valid editor command.  Here are some common text editors:

  • vim / vi
  • nano / pico
  • emacs

The next time you login to your shell the editor you selected will invoke when you run crontab and other commands that spawn an external editting program.
